Track Meet & Park

This past Thursday my sister, Daisy, had her first high school track meet. She's a freshman, but she made the JV team. Of course, Kaden and I went out to cheer her on. She did so good for her first meet!!

Unfortunately, because she was in so many events, she didn't get to finish her triple jump event. She had to scratch her last jump so she could get to her 100 meter relay. She came in 4th for the triple jump! Next time, she's determined to get top 3!!
They came in first for the 4x100 relay, 2nd for the 4x200 relay, and she came in 6th (out of 25-30) for the 100 meter. We're so proud of her!
In other news, this little dresser sits in Kaden's play room. Usually, it houses his toys (when they're not all over the floor). Kaden has decided he likes to sit in the dresser to play. He's so cute...he always smiles at me with this mischievous little smile! He's so funny!!
Monday Micah got home earlier than usual from work. I have Bible study on Monday nights, but we decided to walk to the park before I had to leave. It's still a little big for him, but he loved going down the slides!! The smiles speak for themselves!!!

Story Time

I've been taking Kaden to story time at the library the past few weeks. I think we've been the last 4-5 weeks. The first two times we went Kaden was a mess. It was a new place to explore and he was crawling all over and into everything. I'm not going to lie, the first week, I used cheerios to keep him sitting still. But, now, every time we go, he gets better and better. It's called story time, actually I think it's official name is Mother Goose Story Time, but we do so much more than listen to a story. Usually there's only one (maybe two) books read. We sing songs, play with a parachute, have bubble time, read a book, and then they throw out tons of toys and books and let the kids go to town. There's babies from 9 weeks to 3 years old. Kaden has a great time, and it gives me a chance to chat with other mommies. Here's some pics from the last time we went.
He was fascinated by this toy. We may have to get one for home. He loves it!
Kaden played (mostly--he also attempted to chew the bells) this instrument the whole time. He also sang while he played. He had the other moms cracking up!
 We enjoy our library time!

Valentine's Day Gift

This Valentine's Day, I decided to try to get a little crafty for my hubby's gift. Thanks to Pinterest and this awesome website, I had lots of great ideas to choose from. I settled on two, and thought I'd share one with you. I found this idea through Pinterest, but the original idea can be found here. Here's how I did it.
(Disclaimer: I've discover I'm not very good at taking step-by-step pics. Sorry, but you'll get the idea.)

I bought a 6 pack of Crush. I chose Crush because the bottles were clear. Since there was no way I was going to down 6 bottles, I dumped them into a pitcher.

I pulled off all the stickers, and soaked the bottles to get all the glue off. That took a little bit of scrubbing.

Then I laid the bottles out to dry.

While they were drying, I started painting the box. I chose black, but you can pick any color. Spray paint probably would have been easier, but with the baby, weather, etc., I did what I could.

One of the harder parts of this project was picking Micah's favorite snacks that would fit into the bottle opening. I managed to do it. He did, however, get two bottles of sunflower seeds. That's ok because he LOVES sunflower seeds.

Once I put the snacks into each bottle, I decorated the box. (This is where I got a little lazy on the pics.) I tried not to make it too girly, but show that it was a Valentine's gift and I do love him!

I attached little tags to each bottle. (Just in case he couldn't figure out what was in them ;). I set it by his keys after he went to bed, so he'd find it the next morning. He took it to work with him so he'd have something to snack on during the day...which turned out to be a good idea cause he didn't get a lunch break that day! And, believe it or not, he got lots of "cool," "where'd you get that," positive comments from the guys at work. I was hoping they didn't give him a hard time for bringing his wife's home-made valentine's gift to work!!

I think he really enjoyed it, and I had fun making it. I love Pinterest!!! I also made something similar to this. But lets be honest, I'm sure the favorite gift was the one involving the food! ;) Also, below is a pic of Kaden enjoying his Valentine gift. Yes I know it has nothing to do with Valentine's Day, but really, he's a 9 month old boy. He loves trucks & blocks!!

Tired Boys

Last night my two Valentines passed out on the floor upstairs pretty quickly after dinner. Daddy had a long day at work, and Kaden had a busy day playing with his friend Carson.

I went downstairs to clean the kitchen, and when I came back up, this is how I found Kaden. I love my boys!!

9 Months

Look how handsome our 9 month old is!!!
 Stats:
We went to Kaden's 9 month appointment today. Dr said he's looking perfect. He weighed in at 18lbs 7oz (10-25%). Was 28 inches long (50%). And his head is 18 in (75%). He's growing right on track. Dr said he'd probably start slowing in his growth the next few months. I think he's just perfect.
 Sleeping Habits:
Kaden is sleeping better. He's doing much better during the day with nap time. He's also sleeping longer at night. He still wakes up once quite a bit. I started thinking he wasn't getting enough to eat when I was nursing him before bed. So, we've been trying to get him to take a bottle before bed. Some nights he does good, and some it's still a hassle. But, in general, he's doing better.
  Eating Habits:
Like I mentioned earlier, we're trying to incorporate more formula. He's starting to enjoy it and take it much better than when we first started. He still loves to eat. He's getting very independent. He loves to feed himself. He's pretty much grown out of baby food. He's not intersted. I try every now and then to feed it to him, but it usually just goes to waste. His meals these days consist mostly of cut up fruits and veggies. However, the Dr. just gave us permission to try pretty much anything.
 New Tricks:
Besides being all over the place, Kaden has a few new tricks. He can wave bye bye. He can clap. He LOVES to play peek-a-boo. He'll cover his eyes with his hands or with a blanket or his shirt, and he just laughs when we say boo. And he loves it when we cover our eyes and play with him. We're working on blowing kisses. Right now he just thinks it's funny.
  Dr. Visits:
We went to the Dr. two weeks ago. It wasn't a scheduled visit, but for two days he ran a fever of 102. He had no other symptoms, but we couldn't get his fever down. Because he had had 2 ear infections just before then, we decided to take him in to have him rechecked. They were fine. I guess he just had a little bug. He ran a fever for a few days with no other real symptoms besides being groggy, and after about 3-4 days he was back to normal. Then we went today for his 9 month check up. Prayerfully, we won't go back until his 1 year check up.
 General Observations:
He's still very much independent and very much a momma's boy. 2 things that have stayed consistent. He's a happy boy! He loves to play. He loves to eat. He loves bath time. He's all over the place & into everything. He managed to crawl all the way up the stairs (with me close behind). He loves music & singing. He's smart. And he gives the best kisses.

9 Month Check-Up

Kaden had is 9 month check up today. He was such a good boy. He's growing right on track, and dr says he looks perfect!! Daddy got to come to our appt with us today. That was a nice treat. His 9 month update will be posted soon.

McMahon Happenings

I know it's been a while since I've updated. It's on my to-do list everyday, and everyday it gets bumped to tomorrow's to-do list. So, I'm going to wrap a couple blogs I've been meaning to do into one blog.

First off is our attempt at using Kaden's new wagon that he got for Christmas. FAIL! It was really cute, but Kaden had no interest in sitting in it. He wanted to stand and look around. We didn't even make it half way down the street before we turned around and headed home to get the stroller. I tried to give him toys to distract him. We also tried to use the "seat belt", but he wasn't having that. We'll try again when he's a little bigger.

We've graduated to the "big boy tub" during bath time. We got this tub that came with a seat for when he was younger. Once he started sitting on his own, we took out the seat, and he can sit and play. He loves to chase around his toys in the tub.

Meal times have been a bit challenging lately. He's very picky. He does not like baby food. And for the most part, he doesn't like to be fed. He wants to feed himself. This limits what he can eat. I found this apple & oatmeal breakfast I thought he might like. It has chunks, so it's not like baby food...or so I thought. So he mostly eats veggies, and cut up fruit. And apparently he doesn't get tired of it...at least not yet. I love watching him eat!!

You can tell from the shirt (that was once white) that an 8 month old feeding himself can be rather messy. You'll see in the pics below that we now resort to eating in a diaper. A bib only helps so much cause half of his food ends up in his lap, on the floor, etc.
