Aquire the Fire 2010

This past weekend we took a group of kids to Aquire the Fire. We had a good time, and I think the kids really had fun! I discovered, though, that I am not as young as I once was. I can no longer survive on 4 hours of sleep. I'm pretty positive a good time was had by all!!!

New Year's Resolutions

I normally don't like to make new years resolutions. I think they're made to be broken. They're more like things you know you should do, but you're not going to...and maybe if you make it a "resolution", give it a fancy name, you might keep it. Not! So, though I don't usually do this, I decided to set some goals. We'll see if calling it a "goal" is any better. :-)

* Lose weight (get back into shape). I did really good before the wedding, so I know I can do it!

* Do better at staying clean & organized (home, car, & classroom). So far, my car and classroom are good. 2 out of 3 isn't bad!

* Learn more about photography. I have a great camera, I just need to learn to use it. And learn to edit more.

* Learn & cook new and fun recipes

* Learn to sew & possibly piano lessons

* Make sure to get in quiet time/devotional time daily

* Be smart in spending $$. Simplifying life.

Most of these are more like lifestyle changes, which Micah and I are both trying to work on. Any ideas, suggestions, and/or helpful hints would be great! :-)

This verse blows my mind:

"Long ago, even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes. His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave Him great pleasure." Ephesians 1:4&5

How cool is it to think that even when I don't impress myself, or even when I don't like myself, God loved me so much that He's always desired me to be a part of His family. I, and you, bring Him pleasure. That's amazing!

So, after a two week vacation, I'm back on schedule. Here's today's verse:

" Don't you realize that friendship with this world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again, if your aim is to enjoy this world, you can't be a friend of God. 'God sets himself against the proud, but he shows favor to the humble.'" -James 4:4, 6

Kinda makes you think a little.

Sad!

Why? You ask. Because, tonight marks the end of my Christmas break. I know I shouldn't complain. Not many people get two weeks off for Christmas break, but now I'm a bit spoiled. I'm not looking forward to going back to school. I always go through a mini depression right before. The 2nd semester is hard with the TAKS test pressure. Lots of testing, tutoring, and more testing. The end of April cannot get here soon enough! At least we ease in slowly. We go back tomorrow, but the kids don't come back until Tuesday. One last day of partial relaxation. And, in two weeks we get a day of. MLK day on Jan. 18th...which just happens to be my birthday. A day off--Happy Birthday to me!!
